Fortifications of Kos Castle
The 14th century Castle of the Knights on Kos turns into a flower garden each spring, as do the other archaeological parks within the highly attractive island capital's town centre. On Peter Sommer Travels' cultural cruise of the Northern Dodecanese, we invite travellers to consider and moreover enjoy the long history of a city that was founded in Greek antiquity, thrived within the Roman empire, became a major centre of Early Christianity, and then regained a new lease of life as a hub of the medieval crusader state of Rhodes, followed by Ottoman and Italian occupations, both of which left a striking imprint on the face of the town.
