Spring flowers at the Knight's Castle Kos
In spring, the interior of the Castle of the Knights at Kos becomes a veritable garden of wild flowers. The castle itself is medieval, but built from thousands of reused building blocks taken from ancient Greek and Roman structures. Visible in the background are the “Avenue of the Palm-trees”, formerly the castle's eastern moat, and the elegant minaret of the 1786 Mosque of Gazi Hassan. On the Peter Sommer Travels cultural cruise of the northern Dodecanese, travellers get a real sense of the region's long and rich history. Find out about our Cruising the Northern Dodecanese tour.
