A gateway at Kos Castle
The lintel over a gateway in the 15th-16th century Castle of the Knights on Kos is decorated with the escutcheons, or crests, of several Western European noble families. The Knights of Rhodes owned Kos from 1306 to 1523. Their castle, dominating the town harbour, is built of innumerable reused fragments from the ancient city. On our cultural cruise, the gulet moors right underneath its walls. Find out about our Cruising the Northern Dodecanese tour. Find out about our Cruising to the Cyclades Greek Islands Cruise.
