The ruins of Sardis
Sardis, once one of the most powerful and wealthy cities in Anatolia, was conquered by Alexander in 334. Its many impressive remains include the 2nd century AD synagogue, a good example of the multicultural and multiethnic societies that thrived, surrounded by the trapping of Hellenistic culture, in much of Alexander's former realms for centuries.
