A mosaic at Antakya (ancient Antioch) Museum
Antakya, ancient Antioch was founded soon after Alexander's death in 323 BC, on a site where he was said to have made camp during his campaigns. The city grew to be one of the most important centres in its region, the borderland of Anatolia and the Levant. This splendid 4th century AD Roman mosaic in its museum, depicting the mythical couple of Titans, Thetys and Okeanos, personifications of the sea. One of the many beautiful and interesting sights on our Alexander Tour; it illustrates how lasting a Greek influence Alexander brought to the area.
