Alexander the Great › Library of Celsus at Ephesus

Along our route retracing the march of Alexander the Great, we visit Ephesus, probably the most impressive Roman city in Turkey. The site truly is an archaeological wonderland. This photo shows the splendid library of Celsus, built as a tomb cum library for a Roman governor about 1,900 years ago. The nearby temple of Artemis, one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, burned down the night that Alexander was born.
