‘With room for just 10 guests aboard its 6 cabin gulet, this bay of Naples and Amalfi Coast cruise offers top notch history tourism in super-luxe comfort.’ –
National Geographic Traveller Magazine

‘One of the 100 best holidays’ – The Sunday Times.

Celebrated travel writer, Jeremy Seal, joined our very first Cruising the Amalfi Coast trip in Sept 2011. You can read his feature, Italy’s Bay of Beauty, published in the UK’s Sunday Telegraph on June 3 2012. He described the trip as ‘top-drawer history tourism…true travelling pedigree.’

This unique gulet cruise visits some of the greatest archaeological and cultural jewels of the Amalfi coast. Holidays around the Bay of Naples are almost always by land. We’ve created a trip which allows you to see this beautiful stretch of coast and more while travelling aboard a beautiful and traditional wooden boat. Restricted to just 10 guests, we sail aboard a gorgeous six cabin gulet, handcrafted in Turkey and refitted in Italy.

On this archaeological tour we will of course visit some of the best known places in the area, such as Capri, Pompeii and Amalfi, famed for their beauty or history. We’ll also explore lesser known sites such as Baia and have the chance to see the outstanding Roman frescoes of the Villa Oplontis. These more ‘minor’ places easily match the celebrated highlights in terms of the splendour of their architecture and location, and walking around these un-crowded antiquities creates an unforgettable and atmospheric experience.

The mountains and villages of the Amalfi Coast and nearby islands are justly renowned for their picturesque charm, and there is no better vantage point than the deck of our gulet as we cruise along the coast, or ride at anchor as delicious meals are served. There will be ample opportunity to swim in the Mediterranean Sea, or sit back and relax, read a book, enjoy a glass of wine, or discuss the sights and sounds of the day with new friends.

This gulet cruise, led by an expert historian and archaeologist, is a perfect combination of magnificent sites, breath-taking vistas, glorious swims and mouth-watering local food.

Day 1: Our gulet is about 30 minutes south of Naples airport at the Marina di Stabia. Welcome dinner on board.

Day 2: We cruise to the Baia/Pozzuoli region, where we will explore the beautifully located Imperial villa at Baia and enjoying a sumptuous meal in a sea-side trattoria.

Day 3: To Naples, where we will spend the first half of the day exploring the historic centre of this city and visiting the world-famous archaeological museum (which displays many of the most evocative finds from the site of Pompeii) before lunching in a traditional Napolitan pizzeria. In the afternoon we return to our boat and cruise to the island of Ischia to swim and relax.

Day 4: We explore Pithecusae on the island of Ischia, one of the first Greek colonies in the west, before cruising south to the island of Capri where we can swim in the azure waters of its stunning rocky coastline.

Day 5: A leisurely walk from Capri town to the Villa Jovis, set right at the very tip of the island with breath-taking views all round. The Emperor Tiberius spent many years in much-rumoured seclusion in this Roman imperial palace. In the afternoon we cruise for Amalfi and an evening stroll to admire its cathedral, the Duomo.

Day 6: Inland across the mountains to Pompeii, the most spectacular and complete archaeological site in Italy. We will explore it in detail and picnic among the ruins, then cruise west to anchor off Positano.

Day 7: A last chance to swim as we head past rocky Sorrento to our gulet’s home port, the Marina di Stabia. We will discover the beautiful Roman frescoes of the Villa Oplontis, some of the finest in the world, before ending the tour with a sumptuous farewell meal.

Day 8: Transfer from our gulet to Naples airport, about 30 minutes away.
