A view of Saint Peter's in Rome, part of Heart of the Eternal City add-on.

This is the final, seventh, part of our series about the 2020 Peter Sommer Travels brochure. The printed version of the brochure was posted to our guests and friends all over the world in November 2019. Since then, it can also be accessed in digital form on our website as a pdf download or viewed as a browsable online brochure.

Together, the posts in the series present a full overview of our activities and the many experiences we offer to our guests in 2020. Part 1 looks back at what we did 2019 and forward to our new plans for 2020 and beyond, part 2 showcases our expert-led cruises in Croatia, part 3 describes our land tours and cruises in Greece, part 4 does the same for Turkey, part 5 focuses on our tours in Italy, part 6 on those in the United Kingdom, and part 7 on our offerings in Ireland.

This post, concluding the series, is not about our scheduled tours, but about our gulet charters in the Mediterranean and about the tailor-made tours we design in the six countries we cover, as well as about the add-ons we offer to guests booked on our scheduled tours and cruises.

Add-ons: a special way to enrich your travels

The Caryatid porch of the Erechtheion on the Acropolis of Athens, a great feature on our 'the Heart of Classical Athens' add-on.

Over the years, many of our guests have expressed a strong interest in added days of guided discovery at the important places they pass through on the way to of from our scheduled tours. And for years, we have happily given them informal advice for that purpose (of course, we still do that: if you change planes at Frankfurt, my home-town, or Athens, where I live, I'm more than happy to make suggestions as to what you might want to do or see there - and my colleagues will do the same for Thessaloniki, Siracusa, Zagreb, Split, Istanbul, Izmir, London or Dublin and so on). But it has become clear that many of our guests are eager to extend their stay by expanding their cultural experience in a more organised manner and under Peter Sommer Travels' wings.

As a result, in recent years we have introduced a number of add-ons, starting with Athens and Rome. They are as carefully designed as our full tours, offering further access to these great historic cities, presented either as a condensed 'highlights' version, or as a more 'off-the-beaten-track' approach for those who have already visited the respective city. If you are thinking of booking a room or cabin on one of our tours in Italy or Greece, these add-ons are well worth considering, because they offer additional insights. I do not link to them directly here, since they are not free-standing tour options, but available exclusively for those booked on our cruises or land tours, and embedded in our wider narrative (you can easily find them through our tour pages under the extend your stay tab). If you want to visit Athens or Rome, you should also consider our fuller tours of these historic cities.

Tailor-made tours and private charters: especially for you

In the previous posts of this series, I have summarised all our scheduled tours in 2020. We can do more than that, and we do so all the time. All the elements that go into the regular tours, familiarity with an area, knowledge of its history, access to its special features, our careful attention to detail and our flair for storytelling, are available in another way: our expert-guided tailor-made tours and private charters, the other key element of Peter Sommer Travels.

If you are attracted to Peter Sommer Travels' tours and to our expert guiding, we can devise personal tours or cruises for you, your friends, your family and so on. They can be based on our existing scheduled tours, or they can veer of those according to your or your group's interests. More archaeological sites? That makes our experts happy! More focus on food or wine? No problem, we have options in mind! More swimming? Done! More walking? Alright! A focus on mythology for you or your children? Great! We do all that, we've been doing it for years and we love it!.

What it takes is simple. You contact us, you explain your needs or wants, indicating the dates and numbers and budget you have in mind. Next, we will enter a conversation to work out the tour or cruise you want, using the same resources that go into our scheduled tour programme, to create an itinerary devised to suit you and your group's interests, accompanied by our tour experts, chosen for the trip you envisage.

There are two main versions of such personally-designed travels. On the blue waters of the Mediterranean, we offer private expert-guided gulet charters in Italy, Croatia, Greece and Turkey, voyages that mix the many pleasures of a gulet cruise with the deep cultural insights our archaeological experts provide. On land, we have even more options: expert-led tailor-made land tours in the countries mentioned above, plus Ireland and the United Kingdom, with a stunning range of content to suit you, from archaeology and history, via culture and tradition, to cuisine, walking and so on. For an introduction to our charters see gulet charters, for bespoke land tours, please contact us directly.

At this point, I should remind you that that this is the last of eight posts on our 2020 brochure. If you've read all of them (thank you and congratulations!), you are clearly interested in our tours and cruises. I suggest that you also that you look at our website - and that you follow us on Facebook.

As I mentioned in several of the previous posts of this series, some of our 2020 trips are already close to selling out, so if anything here really tickles your interests, don't let it wait too long. Of course, all the tours listed here, and perhaps some more, will also be available in 2021 and after - but why wait? Most importantly, if you have any questions, feel free to contact us.

We'd love to see you in 2020!
