The Bodrum Cup Regatta - Sailing through History
A brand new unique tour in Turkey for October 2009. An archaeological cruise on the Almira - but with a difference. You’ll be helping to sail… under the expert guidance of the boat’s crew.
For the first week you’ll literally be learning the ropes - getting a feel for the boat and getting actively involved. Then in the second week you’ll be taking part in the celebrated Bodrum Cup Regatta - a 5 day race featuring over 100 classic wooden yachts - a truly stunning spectacle. During the regatta, half a day is spent sailing, while the other half is given over to relaxation or cultural adventures.

The trip combines all the great highlights of our standard gulet cruises - beautiful food (lunches are more basic to allow for the sailing), superb swimming opportunities, and spectacular landscapes.
If that weren’t enough, Peter will be onboard to personally escort you back in time into Turkey’s ancient past. The itinerary on this trip will be fluid and flexible - harnessing the wind and sailing is our priority, but we’ll also visit some breathtaking ruins, like the temple tombs of Kaunos, and the colonnades of Knidos.
The Bodrum Cup Regatta: gulet cruise itinerary

Our boat is about 30 minutes from Dalaman airport at Göcek, a pretty harbour on the Bay of Fethiye, on the mediterranean coast of Turkey. Welcome dinner on board.
Day 2-10: We head west along Turkey’s Mediterranean shore. Our journey takes us along the southern coast of Caria, studded with dynamic and influential cities back in Greek and Roman times. We’ll sail when we can and fit in a good number of swim stops and a selection of fascinating archaeological sites.
Day 11: We sail into the vast natural harbour of Bodrum, brimming with beautiful wooden gulets. We spend the day exploring Halicarnassus, site of one of the seven wonders of the world, with a special visit to the Crusader Castle of St. Peter, now one of the world’s best museums of underwater archaeology. A chance to do some shopping.
Day 12: Day 1 of the Bodrum Cup. Route is still to be announced.
Day 13: Day 2 of the Bodrum Cup.
Day 14: Day 3 of the Bodrum Cup.
Day 15: Day 4 of the Bodrum Cup.
Day 16: The final leg of the Bodrum Cup, followed by an evening awards ceremony and celebration.
Day 17: Transfer to Bodrum airport, some 40 minutes away.
