How fit do I need to be to join one of your tours?

Our tours by their very nature involve a significant amount of walking, often in hot and humid climatic conditions, as well as scrambling over rough terrain on archaeological sites which are frequently rugged and with loose rocks underfoot. This can make them difficult to negotiate and physically tiring. Your physical fitness should therefore be of a level that will allow you to get the most from the chosen tour.

While all of our tours involve an element of walking, the distance, duration and terrain can differ considerably. So we’ve graded our trips to better help you assess the level of fitness needed in order to enjoy them to the full.



Level walking, gentle hills or slopes, city walking, steps, tracks and paths, some uneven ground.


Walking includes some steep slopes and narrow paths over rugged terrain. Some loose stones underfoot and walls to climb over. Duration max 4hrs.


Walking includes rocky and rugged terrain with loose stones underfoot. Challenging tracks and paths requiring a good sense of balance. Some long stretches of uphill and downhill walking. Duration max 7hrs, distance max 10 miles (16km).
