Sustainability
We are committed to reducing our environmental impact where it is practical to do so, and to improving our approach over time.
We keep our basic approach simple: run small, well-planned tours, work with local partners, reduce unnecessary waste, and make sensible choices about energy, water and resources.
If you are interested, do take a look at our schedule of escorted tours.
What we currently do
-
- Keep groups small (typically 12–18 people), reducing pressure on local infrastructure and environments.
- Use shared transport (such as minibuses and group transfers) to limit emissions where possible.
- Plan efficient itineraries to avoid unnecessary travel and fuel use.
- Work with local suppliers, guides, accommodation providers and restaurants, supporting local economies and reducing transport distances.
- Focus on seasonal and local food and wine where meals are included.
- Reduce paper use, with brochures and most documentation provided digitally.
- Recycle and reuse materials in our office and encourage similar practices where feasible on tour.
- Limit plastic waste on our tours where we can.
- Operate within local environmental regulations and follow guidance to protect landscapes, archaeological sites and marine environments.
- Design boat-based tours with resource limits in mind, including careful use of water and energy on board.
- Encourage practical, low-impact behaviour on tour, such as staying on paths, respecting wildlife, and avoiding unnecessary waste.
What we are currently working on and improving (current goals)
-
- Reducing plastic bottle use, starting with a UK trial where guests are encouraged to bring reusable water bottles instead of relying on single-use plastics.
- Improving recycling on our tours, particularly on gulet trips, recognising that this is a gradual process as recycling infrastructure varies by country.
- Supporting local environmental initiatives, beginning with donations to selected projects in the regions we visit, with plans to expand this over time and involve guest input.
- Providing information on how guests can help reduce their environmental impact, providing information on offsetting the emissions associated with their travel and other methods, if they would like to do so.
- Reviewing our office energy supply, with the aim of moving to renewable electricity.
- Introducing beach cleans on our gulet tours, helping to leave the places we visit in a better condition than when we arrived.
What you can do
-
- Bring a reusable water bottle and bag to help reduce single-use plastic.
- Pack lightly and avoid unnecessary packaging where possible.
- Travel mindfully to your destinations by ferry or public transport.
- Dispose of waste responsibly and recycle where facilities exist.
- Join us in picking up litter, or on short beach cleans during your gulet tours.
- Consider offsetting your flights or travel through recognised and transparent schemes.
- Be mindful of water and energy use, especially in areas where resources are limited and on our gulet tours.
- Stay on marked paths and leave wild-flowers, plants and natural features as you find them.
- Support local businesses and producers where you can.
We are also committed to operating responsibly, with respect for the economic, social, and archaeological environments of the countries we visit. Please visit our Responsible Travel page for more details.
