Gulet cruising travel video

Our second Peter Sommer Travels’ tour exceeded our expectations as did our first tour in Turkey. The Amalfi Coast tour had outstanding guides, gorgeous scenery, gourmet dining and relaxing accommodations with a helpful crew.”

Jane Bokan and Ronald Smith, Oakland, CA, USA

“The Cruising the Amalfi Coast tour was excellent. Michael’s knowledge of his subject was extraordinary, and his enthusiasm infectious. The crew of the Deriya Deniz were wonderful – they treated us (and fed us!) wonderfully and nothing was ever too much trouble. We could not recommend the trip too highly.”

Matthew Garey & Georgina Foster, NSW, Australia

“It goes without saying that the scenery was incredible, the meals excellent, the onshore tours extremely educational and good exercise both physically and mentally. We will remember this cruise and tour for the rest of our lives and share it with anyone interesting in listening. Thank you Peter and all of your team for helping us have the very best vacation ever.”

Jim and Dorothy Arthurs, Kenora, Ontario, Canada

“Traveling for a month in Italy, the highlight of our trip was the Peter Sommer Travels’ gulet trip on the Amalfi Coast. A fabulous way to visit and learn about the history of the area while living and eating great food on the gulet, Deriya Deniz. Michael went above and beyond as a guide and his knowledge and enthusiasm are amazing. This being our second Peter Sommer Travels trip, I’m sure it won’t be our last. You do a top notch job of planning these trips and it shows in the execution. What a great time we had… Thank you for another amazing tour.”

Cruising the Amalfi Coast

With room for just 10 guests aboard its 6 cabin gulet, this bay of Naples and Amalfi Coast cruise offers topnotch history tourism in super-luxe comfort.
National Geographic Traveller Magazine, 2013

One of the 100 best holidays of 2011 by The Sunday Times.

Celebrated travel writer, Jeremy Seal, joined our very first Cruising the Amalfi Coast trip in Sept 2011. You can read his feature, Italy’s Bay of Beauty, published in the UK’s Sunday Telegraph on June 3 2012. He described the trip as “top-drawer history tourism...true travelling pedigree.”

This unique gulet cruise visits some of the greatest archaeological and cultural jewels of the Amalfi coast. Holidays around the Bay of Naples are almost always by land. We’ve created a trip which allows you to see this beautiful stretch of coast and more while travelling aboard a beautiful and traditional wooden boat. Restricted to just 10 guests, we sail aboard a gorgeous six cabin gulet, handcrafted in Turkey and refitted in Italy.

On this tour we will of course visit some of the best known places in the area, such as Capri, Pompeii and Amalfi, famed for their beauty or history. We’ll also explore lesser known sites such as Baia and have the chance to see the outstanding Roman frescoes of the Villa Oplontis. These more ‘minor’ places easily match the celebrated highlights in terms of the splendour of their architecture and location, and walking around these un-crowded antiquities creates an unforgettable and atmospheric experience.

The mountains and villages of the Amalfi Coast and nearby islands are justly renowned for their picturesque charm, and there is no better vantage point than the deck of our gulet as we cruise along the coast, or ride at anchor as delicious meals are served. There will be ample opportunity to swim in the Mediterranean Sea, or sit back and relax, read a book, enjoy a glass of wine, or discuss the sights and sounds of the day with new friends.

This cruise, led by an expert historian and archaeologist, is a perfect combination of magnificent sites, breathtaking vistas, glorious swims and mouth-watering local food.
