We’d like to single out our tour guide Serdar for particular mention – he really made the tour special.  His knowledge and enthusiasm about the archaeological sites and history were a definite bonus and the arrangements for the gastronomic outings ashore were all terrific.  We should also mention the cooking demos and meals onboard, which were delicious. We really enjoyed our Gastronomic Gulet Cruise and hope to sail with Peter Sommer Travels again sometime.”
Carol Henning, Berkeley, CA, USA

“We had the most brilliant holiday, everything about it was wonderful, Serdar, the boat, the crew, the itinerary, all the people; thank you so much, I have not stopped recommending it.”
Jacky Laurie, Gers, France

“This was probably one of our favourite vacations we have ever taken! A GREAT way to celebrate our 25th anniversary, cruising the beautiful sea and enjoying food, conversation and history.”
Paul and Karla Reimer, Kansas, USA

“An absolutely phenomenal trip. We incredibly enjoyed our beautiful boat, the wonderful company and crew, and, most importantly, the excellent cuisine. The hikes through the Turkish countryside were beautiful and the trip was very well organised. The food on board was delicious, but made more memorable by the local hand given when we had lunch in a Turkish house, or tea with a goat herder. A very unique experience.”
Lily Faust, Victoria, USA

“Frequent ‘on water’ holidaymakers, our recent gastronomic tour in Turkey was the best ever. Our guide/leader Serdar was terrific on all fronts: archaeology, gastronomy, organisation, and friendliness. The crew were great from cook to captain to deckies. Food was superb both on board and on shore, as were our experiences with various chefs and cooks. We’re planning to do it all again with Peter Sommer Travels!”
Ian Parmenter (food writer and lapsed TV chef) and Ann Dewar (grape farmer), Margaret River, Australia.

A Gastronomic Gulet Cruise

‘This cruise reminded me why I travel in the first place’ - The Globe and Mail, Canada’s leading national newspaper. Read the full feature by a leading travel writer who was on our Gastronomic Gulet Cruise in Turkey in Sept 2013 - Globe and Mail travel article.

One of the top 10 food and drink holidays in Turkey for 2015’ - The Telegraph (UK)
Rated One of ‘The World’s Tastiest Cruises’ - The Sunday Times (UK)

So many of our guests have raved about the food served on our gulet cruises in Turkey and asked for recipes, that we decided to create a trip with an even more gastronomic flavour.

Not only will you enjoy all the usual dishes served up by the onboard cook, on this trip you will see demonstrations in small traditional restaurants and get involved in the cooking, conjuring up some of the excellent Turkish dishes you’ll eat. You’ll cook with local Turkish people and prepare regional delicacies.

This is a journey to treat your taste buds, a voyage of discovery through Turkish Mediterranean cuisine. But you won’t miss out on the history. Your expert guide, Serdar, is an archaeologist who has been excavating in Turkey for many years. He also happens to be a foodie, a man with a great passion for Turkish cuisine. He will lead you on a culinary and cultural adventure through one of the least developed and most stunning areas of natural beauty in Turkey.

You’ll explore some of Turkey’s most impressive ancient sites, including monumental wonders like Kaunos (where Serdar has been excavating for more than 30 years) with its exquisite rock-cut temple tombs, and beautifully preserved Knidos, a stunning marbled city arranged around a double harbour. You’ll also enjoy some wonderful walks in magnificent scenery and visit ancient towns like Lydae, set in remote and beautiful locations, which remain as yet completely unexcavated.
